Hi! Hello! Welcome!

Oh hey there! Didn’t you see you (because this is a blog) ! This is me, loving the bright colors of Oregon!

I’m Jenni Kuhn!

Welcome to my blog! As a teacher in training and future teacher, I will use this space to reflect on my progress, share resources, and advocate for education related issues that I really care about! But first my stats:

  • I spent the first half of my childhood in New Jersey and the second half in Idaho.
  • I am a graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts and History.
  • I am seeking endorsements in Health Education and Social Studies.
  • I had many interesting jobs before becoming a teacher! Just a few include: working at Walt Disney World, ski instructing, theater interning, and working at a fertility clinic!
  • I do it all (well maybe not all of it) – I swim! I hike! I camp! I write! I read! I watch documentaries! I pet cats! I make my friends laugh! I laugh with my friends!
  • I believe that having historical knowledge can be an empowering tool to guide us in the present day. People always say that history is a road map for the future but I believe the future is now! History is a road map for the decisions we are all making today!
  • I believe health education is a force for positive change in the world. When people know how to take care of themselves, they can self-actualize, and contribute in more meaningful ways to their communities! And enjoy this beautiful world we live in too!

“But Jenni, why did you choose to draw attention to the fact that you are a novice in your blog title? That you are, indeed, an amateur?”

While I am studying to be a health and social studies teacher, I am deeply influenced by my theater background. Amateur Hour refers to a performance in which beginners are given time to hone their craft – in other words, to make mistakes and learn from them.

I am a lifelong learner. The name of this blog won’t change once I have been teaching for 20 years. Mistakes will always be made throughout my career and therefore, learning opportunities will be abundant. I hope to model this philosophy for my future students! I believe that life – yours, mine, all of ours – is forever Amateur Hour! Break a leg!

That being said – I’m an amateur blogger too! If you have suggestions for me on how to do this whole blog thing – please share! I can use all the help I can get!
